We all get discouraged from time to time. And let me tell you, I’m in a slump.
Even if on our blogs we put on a “brave face”, you never know what someone is feeling. I don’t think it’s just being a writer either. I’m sure people in all different professions feel it.
Tina Lee encouraged me in the comments on Wednesday’s post. I didn’t say or do anything to prompt it. But, it came at the right time for me. Yes, I’m on the roller coaster ride and I’ve been stuck between hills for like two weeks. It has nothing to do with anything that has happened in my life. It has nothing to do with rejections or harsh critiques or the fact that ski boots, iceskates, snowboots, snowpants, drying coats, and ski helmets clutter my dining room – okay it may have something to do with that. As a human being, I can’t remain at the top of the hill of feeling hopeful and encouraged all the time. I know that. But it doesn’t change the fact that I feel discouraged.
And honestly, I feel like all my blog posts have been dripping with discouragement. That somehow, through my drab word choice, it was obvious. Or worse, that my thoughts have just been boring. So, Tina’s words were…encouraging.
So, don’t be afraid to tell someone you like their blog posts just because on the outside they seem to be fine and happy with 5,000 followers or only 3 followers. As writers, we know the power of words. And words of affirmation will always encourage.
So go out and encourage someone today!
And, if you want to know more about me and my writing life, click on over to Edited to Within an Inch of My Life and read my interview. And if you haven’t already, look through Heather’s posts to find some encouragement and to encourage!
(And holy cow, I’m getting good. I inserted three links! For me, that’s a record. If you read through my posts, I have a definite link deficiency. But I’m getting there.)
Laura–thanks for doing the interview today! It should be fun. Great answers!
And Laura–I love the encouragement challenge. You just never know when what you say makes a difference in someone’s day. Thanks for the great reminder!
Consider your challenge met, I think there’s round about encouragement oozing out of my blog today…
Great post, Laura! And what a wonderful idea to encourage each other. I accept the challenge! Thanks for suggesting it 🙂
Really great reminder. It’s amazing how some well-timed, heartfelt comments on my blog have picked me up in the past. It’s important to share that, and I will. BTW, thanks for posting honestly about your “slump.” I’ve been there, too, and it’s encouraging to know I’m not alone.
Hey guys, sorry I haven’t been here. It’s 9:30 pm and my power just flicked back on! Yay!!! I was “unplugged” but not by choice. 🙂
Laura! Awesome interview — congratulations! Your blog is great. Maybe you could help me with mine! 😉
Kris
Hey Kris! Thanks for stopping by. I’m definitely still learning the whole blogging thing. How to do it effectively in a way that takes up the least amount of time.
Laura: What a great idea! I know I’ve always really appreciated your positive comments on my blog and we all know that even when we may not be feeling the most up beat just a friendly *hugs* or understanding *just keep chugging – it will get better* means the world sometimes.
And I’m STILL trying to make links work on my blog and it’s not working! So yay for succeeding!
Hey Nelsa, I am in awe of the bloggers that have like 10 or 15 links in one post. Someday…
