Lee Strauss and PERCEPTION cover reveal!

Lee Strauss has a new cover!

Seventeen year old Zoe Vanderveen is a GAP—a genetically altered person. She lives in the security of a walled city on prime water-front property along side other equally beautiful people with extended life spans.
Her brother Liam is missing.
Noah Brody is a natural who lives on the outside. He leads protests against the GAPs and detests the widening chasm they’ve created between those who have and those who don’t. He doesn’t like girls like Zoe and he has good reason not to like her specifically.
Zoe’s carefree life takes a traumatic turn. She’s in trouble and it turns out that Noah, the last guy on earth she should trust, is the only one who can help her.

PERCEPTION is a ( SF/mystery/romance) Young Adult novel that takes place in the not too distant future in a world changed by climate extremes, natural disasters and impending wars, and where scientific breakthroughs cause class divisions—both financially and philosophically. It explores the clash between faith and science and how differences can separate us as enemies or alliance us together. And in some cases, even in the midst of betrayal and personal crisis, there’s room to fall in love.
This is the first book in a planned three book series.

You can “like” Lee Strauss on facebook and mark Perception to read on goodreads.

Lee Strauss is also known as Elle Strauss (for her lighter, lower YA titles) You can find her at www.ellestraussbooks.com

PERCEPTION will be for sale on Amazon and at other e-retailer stores SEPTEMBER 12!

Just ignore the lake monsters when on vacation.

We have to conquer our fears all the time. At least I do. Not just in publishing our work or showing our work to betas and critique partners but in life. Let me tell you, facing the squirrels that have taken residence in our basement is way more scary than preparing a manuscript for publication. That’s an exciting kind of scary. Squirrels are just plain terrifying with their beady eyes. They’re kind of like zombies the way they look at you with a vacant expression. But enough on rodents and onto something better like lake monsters.

For the second summer in a row I swam across a lake and back. ** You’d think I’d fear the speedboats buzzing through the water with tubes behind them or the possibility of getting a cramp and drowning.

But no.

For me it’s my imagination. It’s the massive creatures that lurk in the deepest parts of lakes and only surface for a nibble when women are swimming across. I imagine they love the taste of blue striped bathing suits. I hear they have really sharp teeth and oozing green skin with scaly tails.

In fact, we saw one swim by the dock at night. Some people thought it was a beaver but I know the truth.

So yeah, I’ve been swimming, kayaking, reading, socializing, beating my family at Boggle and falling into bed exhausted every night. My sister and her kids are in town and it’s been great.

So excuse me while I go read for a bit and then dash off to our next activity.

Be back soon!

** Okay, I didn’t swim across the lake alone. That’s the next step but I’m not sure I’m up for that. Maybe next summer…

Don’t forget to stop in for #indiechat tonight at 9pm EST. We’re going to have author Hugh Howey visiting to talk about short stories. You’ve probably heard of his series titled WOOL. Hope to see you there tonight!

What have you been up to this summer?

When your ereader goes poof!

So I learned that if funny little lines appear on your Kindle screen then it can’t be fixed by resetting the device. (Trust me, I tried at least 100 hundred times.) And that most likely I inflicted screen damage through too much pressure or extreme heat.

A very, very sad day for me.

I brought it on a weekend trip, hoping to sneak in some reading right before bed or early in the morning. I had just started a book and I was only two chapters into it! I desperately wanted another chapter of it, to get lost in the words before falling into a deep sleep despite the air leaking from my air mattress throughout the night.

Of course there was the two other books I was in the middle of reading too, and don’t forget the numerous freebies and samples that when I don’t have a lot of time, I love reading especially when I’m in the mood to discover new voices.

Recently, I’d been telling myself and others that I read half print and half ebooks. Well, I learned this weekend that I’ve been lying, because when I couldn’t access any of books on my Kindle…I felt bereft.

And now, back at home, waiting patiently for my new Kindle to arrive (which I did receive a discount for, in case you were wondering) (and which I couldn’t do without for too much longer) the sad truth hits that I’m totally addicted to reading in a way I wasn’t before. Read my Indelible post about it here.

So, lesson learned: bring print book with me on vacation too just in case my Kindle goes poof.

And yes, technically, my Kindle didn’t go poof because that would have required wisps of smoke and maybe a bit of magic. Details, details.

Do you read more print or ebooks?

Hot new covers for Magan Vernon’s alien books.

Okay, I confess! I’m a complete cover addict! I’ve always lusted after certain books because of their covers and now that I’ve ventured into the world of self publishing and I’m learning photoshop the lust level has risen.
I love studying covers. And I love seeing cover reveals. I hunt them down on Twitter.
Magan Vernon, a fellow Indelible, decided to redesign her covers and I absolutely love them.
Magan shares a little bit below about the why below the covers.

Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVED my original covers for How to Date an Alien and How to Break up with an Alien, but to some people it was giving off the impression that it was a cutesy MG book.

If you still loved my original covers, the beautiful designs by CA Marshall will still grace my paperbacks. To up the stakes and grace my covers with a hot alien boy, I enlisted the help of the awesome Steven Novak who has designed covers for Rashelle Workman, Megg Jensen, and Angela Carlie.
He understood my vision and my NEED for Ace to have guyliner on the covers. These new covers will be uploaded to Amazon ASAP so hopefully the rest of the world can understand the hotness of aliens.
What do you think of the new covers?
Have you hopped over to Amazon yet and picked up How to Date an Alien for FREE?
