The Binding Stone – Lisa Gail Green!

I’m so excited to be part of Lisa’s blog tour! She’s been an incredibly supportive writer friend and it’s fantastic to return the favor! I was first introduced to Lisa’s writing in one of the Journey of Wonders anthologies. Loved her story. I can’t wait to read The Binding Stone.

Genies like you’ve never seen them, THE BINDING STONE is a wild ride of treachery and deception. For my first wish, I’d like a sequel, please.” – PERSONAL DEMONS author Lisa Desrochers

I dream of Lisa Gail Green! The Binding Stone is magical in so many ways. My Djinn asks for my third wish? The sequel, of course!” – NYT Bestselling Author Nancy Holder

Tricked into slavery by the man she loved, the Djinni Leela has an eternity to regret her choices.

Awakened in the prison of her adolescent body, she finds a new master in possession of the opal that binds her. But seventeen-year-old Jered is unlike any she’s seen. His kindness makes Leela yearn to trust again, to allow herself a glimmer of hope.

Could Jered be strong enough to free her from the curse of the Binding Stone?

Excerpt

Jered storms up to his room, where I appear before him, head down, hair falling in my face. Will this be the point where he starts punishing me? I wonder. I think of things I might say to stop it from happening. Offering to change his mother’s memories perhaps. But the words catch in my throat.

“Leela,” he says, and his voice is painfully soft. “Are you okay?”

I lift my chin. “I couldn’t help it,” I say. Never once has an attempt

to defend myself worked with a Master. But for some reason I am compelled to try.

“It was my fault. Not yours. I’m sorry, Leela.”

Jered continues on, telling me that I should stay hidden from now on. That he’ll pretend he broke up with me. But my heart is caught on those first words, and I almost allow myself to hope that everything might be okay this time around.

Deepening emotion and a fantastic cover reveal!

I was thinking about my kids this morning. They are all so different yet in ways similar too. Especially when it comes to how they love and how they like to be loved. How they register their frustration, their hurt, their discouragement.

We all know the universal signs of these emotions but that’s all they are. Come to think about it I never see their faces turn red, or their fingers curl into fists when they’re mad. It goes much deeper than that. It starts with mannerisms they’ve picked up from me or inherited genetically then moves to tone of voice and actions or lack of it. (Emotion Thesaurus anyone?)

But back to love.

My son needs gifts. To know I love him, that I care, he needs little candies in his lunch on Valentine’s Day and Easter, or his faith in how much we care wobbles. I see it in his face. (I’ll never make that mistake again.) Another child needs contact, snuggling and major quality time, as in game after game of Chess, Monopoly, Scrambled States of America…you name it.

Do you ever think about these different love languages when creating characters? I can see this aspect of emotion adding a deeper level to our characters. Something to think about.
