Contests, workshops, and news galore! Have you heard?

I love seeing the burst of creativity that is exploding on the Internet from writers I’ve known for the past couple years and ones I’ve recently met.

It’s awesome!

First, we have a writers’ chat tonight (Wednesday) on the Indelibles blog. It’s not on Twitter. Most of the Indelibles’ authors will be there to answer questions on indie and self-publishing. Just lurk or come with your questions.

Second, Addison Moore signed a contract with Twentieth Century Fox! They plan to make her Celestrial Series into a T.V. series. Huge news! I’m so incredibly happy for her and even though she’s eaten sushi to celebrate – I’m just doing dancing to celebrate! Ew. Raw fish.

In the anthology arena, not only do we have IN HIS EYES being prepped for our Valentine’s Day release but Pugalicious Press is open to submissions for a YA anthology. Check them out!

In the way of online workshops there are some incredible ones coming up. Ali Cross is holding NinoCon on Saturday Feb. 4th. She’s accepting queries now to be critiqued by one of the presenters, Elana Johnson!

Susan Sipal, known for her love for Harry Potter and analyzing the writing behind it, is offering a month long workshop for 10 dollars based on her book: A Writer’s Guide to Harry Potter. I’m sure you won’t regret it! The adventure begins on Monday, Feb. 6th! Sign up now.

Don’t miss out on The Bookshelf Muse and their anniversary contest! Critiques and books from the Indelibles! Don’t miss it.

Okay, I’m almost done with the good news. Many of the Indelibles have books fresh off the press!

Rival Demons by Sarra Cannon is released Friday the 20th but it starts with Beautiful Demons. If you love the HEX HALL series, you’ll love this one too.

Karly Kirkpatrick’s  THE GREEN.

Lots of great stuff here. Hope you find something useful! Anything I missed? Add it into the comments!

Countdown of my favorite books – part 6.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! And if the holidays are hard for you for whatever reason, I hope you found comfort in memories of loved ones and the small moments, even if it’s a hot cup of cocoa with whipped cream. And here are some good books to help too. There are specific reasons I’m pairing the next two books together. Read on to find out.

DEMON GLASS by Rachel Hawkins

Many of you know this book. NYT best seller. The first book in the series, HEX HALL, was a fine book. Fun character. Strong story. But it was the second book that sold me on this series. If you want to understand how to write a sequel, read these two books. I can’t wait for the third to come out!

TREMBLE by Addison Moore (Book 2 of the Celestrial series)

Book two continues the saga of Skyla, the purest of angels. Addison introduced so many neat plot twists in this second book. In fact, each book in this 5 book series and counting, does an incredible job of building on the previous novels. There’s something about these books that force you to buy the next to find out what happens! Seriously.

What these books had in common?

1. Both are angel/demon stories in a series.

2. In both series, it was book 2 that hooked me.

3. Both authors did an incredible job of raising the stakes and creating conflict – especially for book 2!

4. If you want to know how to end a book on a cliffhanger without frustrating your readers, then read these. The plot lines closed, the stories ended; but a new twist is introduced at the end.

Share in the comments about your favorite books!

Don’t succumb to the kitty pictures!

It started slowly. A kitty picture here. A kitty picture there. Here a kitty, there a kitty, everywhere a kitty kitty.

These weren’t normal kitties. They were pictures of kitties dressed up and the pictures had text on them.

Bloggers love them.

Because kitties are so cute.

Again, this stretches back to another psycho animal in my life, actually two.

I once lived in a wonderfully cozy apartment (that’s how I choose to remember it) with a particularly nosy brave mole that had me walking around in boots and jumping from furniture to furniture to cross a room.

My downstairs neighbors, from the kindness of their heart, brought me a barn cat. And I didn’t have the guts to say no thanks.

The cat was completely crazy. It whined at my door all night. It stared at me with evil eyes from across the room. It couldn’t retract its claws and loved to jump all over me so I was forced to wear heavy clothing all day.

Yeah, didn’t quite work out for me.

But hey, if you think those kitty pictures are cute. Go for it.

Then I figured out where all the kitty pictures were coming from. My daughter has a google reader account. And guess what she spends her time doing?

Looking at kitty pictures! Mystery solved.

So I’m pretty sure you will never see kitty pictures here on the blog.

I declare this KITTY FREE ZONE!

Phew. I feel a lot better now.

Have a terrific weekend.

Congrats to my friend Addison Moore who’s fifth book, VEX, in her Celestrial series released at number one in several charts with an Amazon ranking of lower than 100! Congrats Addison. Check out Ethereal, the first book, to find out what the craze is all about.

And congrats to Shelli for reaching number 10 on the hot new releases with Untraceable. Come back next week for my thoughts and for some thriller tips from Shelli.
